How to make my bluetooth device search for other devices?

I just got a usb bluetooth dongle. Windows automatically installed drivers for it. How do I get it to search for other devices? What is the best bluetooth software to dl?

Which one do you have? didn’t software come with it?
Usually Cell phones or Blue Tooth devices come with their own software like syncing programs… (e.g. Microsoft’s ActiveSync).
