I, David Knight
Senior Vice President of COAD was asked to take overtime by the administration in
a show of good faith and in accordance with the Unions’ position that, “COAD
encourages its members to accept any voluntary overtime offered by the state IF
THEY SO CHOSE”. There is NO concerted effort by any of our three Unions to use
the refusal of overtime as a means of placing pressure on any entity, as this
could be considered illegal and possibly open the Unions up for a lawsuit. In
other words, it is everyone’s own personal, individual desire to either take
over time or not as he or she so chooses. Therefore, I, on behalf of the
Executive Board have accepted a voluntary overtime shift in Court and
Transportation on Wednesday 11 August 2004. The acceptance of this voluntary
overtime is firmly rooted in the protection of the Union and its ability to
abate any future court issues brought by the State. This is also a showing of
good faith on behalf of the Union which we hope will be reciprocated in the
meeting on Thursday 12 August 2004.
