DOC Officer to be Honored
For Work as Volunteer Firefighter
Officer to Receive Two of Department’s
Top Three Honors

DOVER – A Delaware Department of Correction officer will be honored this Saturday, March 10, for his work as a volunteer firefighter. 24-year old William T. Roemer, a Correctional Officer at Gander Hill prison in Wilmington, will receive two awards Saturday night from the Port Penn Fire Company.

Roemer, of Port Penn, will be named Top Fire Responder and Top Ambulance Responder during the Company’s 2000 Annual Awards Banquet. Roemer has been named tops in these areas for the number of emergency responses he made in each category during calendar year 2000. In addition, Roemer is up for Firefighter of the Year.

Roemer joined the Port Penn Fire Company in 1997. Prior to that, he spent one year with the Odessa Fire Department. Roemer has been a correctional officer for three years.

“I chose a profession that impacts public safety,” said Roemer. “My work as a firefighter also allows me to serve my community. I get a great deal of satisfaction out of both lines of work.”

The Port Penn Awards Banquet will be held at 6 p.m. at the Port Penn Fire Company building.
