DOVER- The Delaware Department of Correction and the Correctional Officers Association of Delaware (COAD) jointly announce that a tentative agreement was reached Friday, July 1 between the state and the union.
The contract, which is subject to a ratification vote by the union's membership, is the result of a collaborative effort between labor and management.
"We are very pleased with the final product," said DOC Commissioner Stan Taylor. "It recognizes the legitimate concerns of employees, as well as the department's responsibility to manage and direct the workforce. We look forward to working cooperatively together under the terms of the new contract."
Wilbur Justice, president of the COAD, said that "this has been a tough but rewarding process and we are confident that the membership will ratify the agreement so that we can move ahead with the challenges that face us."
Details of the contract will not be available until it is distributed to the union membership for its review prior to the ratification vote. That vote should take place within a month.
