DOVER -- Prison workers in Delaware say the report of an expert panel is giving them hope. Members of the Correctional Officers' Union (C.O.A.D) say they're very pleased with the Prison Task Force Report. Officers say the panel took the time to interview workers, and, based on their recommendations, it paid off.
"You could probably interview 90% of our officers, and they'd probably give you the same synopsis as this report entailed," said Paul Smith, C.O.A.D President.
"To have a third, independent party validate what we have been saying meant a lot to us," said Mike Lenigan, C.O.A.D Secretary.
Officers say the recommendation to increase their pay pleased them the most. They say it will help recruit more workers and improve security and staffing problems.
The Prison Report was compiled by an expert panel that Governor Ruth Ann Minner assigned in October. It was their job to review the July 12th hostage incident at the Delaware Correctional Center, and the prison's policies and procedures.
