Delaware Correctional Officers Reach Out at Thanksgiving
Provide Complete Meals for Needy Families
WILMINGTON - A group of correctional officers from Gander Hill prison in Wilmington made this Thanksgiving a little better for some local families.
For the fifth year in a row, the Gander Hill Prison Community Outreach Group delivered Thanksgiving food boxes to 6 needy families in the Wilmington area.
The Outreach Group provided all the fixings for a complete Thanksgiving meal. A turkey, potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, rolls, gravy, cranberry sauce, desserts and other items were given to each family.
The donations were made possible through contributions from Gander Hill employees. The Outreach Group began collecting items in October.
The Gander Hill Community Outreach Group began servicing the community in 1995. In the past, the group has donated blankets to the elderly, stocked Delaware students with school supplies, collected toys for tots at Christmas and delivered Easter flowers to senior citizens.
