Some Delaware Correctional officers want to vote out union leaders....
Today about a hundred of them spoke up...
Melanie Lawson was there...
(LAWSON - ): It's a fragile union these days. Delaware Correctional Officers started their own association seven years ago. They fight for their own state contracts now they're fighting each other.
More than 100 union members spoke loudly right outside of their office. They have a problem with what's inside, an executive board that they say doesn't listen.
(JC Stamps - TEAMSTERS LOCAL 103): A union is supposed to act like a union, a union is supposed to fight for their members there has been no fighting and these members here are sick of sitting back and being quiet.
(LAWSON - ): Stamp's is at the heart of the fighting. He got a call from a union member who wanted teamsters to come in and help.
He said he tried to talk to union leaders about coming in and helping with negotiations but got nowhere. We also tried to talk to them.
They gave us this written statement. The Executive board is committed to remaining an independent association working in the best interest of the Correctional Officers of the State.
(LAWSON - ): These officers don't buy it. They want to vote in a new executive board and then hire the teamsters for two years. But it will take more than just these folks; 400 members will have to vote against the board to get rid of them. Melanie Lawson WBOC News Smyrna.
