DOC Names New Security Chief
DOVER – The Delaware Department of Correction announces that Joseph F. Dudlek has been named Chief of Inspections and Security. Dudlek, 41, replaces Tony Figario, who is retiring February 1, 2002 after a distinguished 23-year career. The move takes effect February 1, 2002.
The Chief of Inspections and Security (CIS) plans and directs the security, control and safety programs within all DOC institutions. This involves overseeing and coordinating the inspection, security, care and safety programs at all correctional facilities to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations. The CIS also inspects all institutions on a regular basis ensuring that institutional security and sanitation policies and procedures are adequate and being enforced.
“This is a very important assignment,” said Commissioner Stan Taylor. “We must maintain safe and secure facilities if we are to effectively carry out our public safety mission. A safe and secure facility also creates an environment more conducive to our rehabilitative efforts. With Joe’s experience in this area, I am confidant in his abilities to maintain our high standards.”
Dudlek is a 19-year veteran of the Department of Correction. He currently serves as Facility Inspector for the Delaware Correctional Center, the State’s largest correctional facility. Dudlek began his DOC career in 1982 as a Correctional Officer. He earned promotions to Correctional Lieutenant, Staff Lieutenant and Unit Manager. He became DCC Facility Inspector in 1995.
In addition to this extensive professional experience, Dudlek has also completed training in several areas including radiation detection, hazardous materials handling & storage, fire sprinkler operations, fire alarm operations, DEMA catastrophic disaster training and food service sanitation. Dudlek is also a nationally registered certified emergency medical technician.
Dudlek graduated from St. Mark’s High School. He is studying for an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
